Commander Jonathan Radec has finally obtained everything he ever wanted in life. However, in a cruel twist of fate, just as he reaches out for his most heartfelt desire, it is torn from his grasp forever.

“For only he who has experienced ultimate happiness, can completely understand the deepest depths of absolute despair.”

Jon has always trusted those closest to him implicitly. It has long been his greatest strength, but one that his enemies have come to realise is also his ultimate weakness. For it is always those closest to you whose betrayal cuts the deepest.

In a horrific, pre-emptive strike at the very heart of the Imperium, the Senate is completely wiped out. In the aftermath of the attack, surrounded by the cries of the dead and dying, destiny once again reaches out its long arm, forcing Jon down a path he has long resisted. For, ever since the day he first set eyes upon Sofia, Jon has been destined to stand above all others.

As the last Emperor of the Imperium.

Jon has already fought through the very depths of hell itself and out the other side to save the ones he loves. Now, to save his family, he will gladly lay siege to the heavens themselves, for they tremble at his approach. As Jon not only commands the living, but also the dead, and they all want revenge against those who have taken everything from them.

Even if the rest of the Imperium must burn first.

The terrifying finale of the Redemption Trilogy. A Science Fiction adventure/romance, which tries to answer the question “Can you ever find redemption for the mistakes of your past?”

Pax Imperia The Redemption Trilogy Book 3 eBook Mike Smith

Read this trilogy!! Yes there are mistakes, but the story is so good these are forgivable. This third volume continues the improvement in technical writing terms, particularly in comparison with the first. Any inherent mistakes are completely overwhelmed by the power of the story, the strength of characters, and particularly the soul-stirring love between Commander Jon Radec and Sofia Aurelius. The larger than life characterization of Jon, and his unshakable commitment to righting the wrongs perpetrated by self-serving villains is refreshing -- no ambiguity between good and evil or right and wrong here. However, Jon's struggles with his inner, self-inflicted, demons of guilt is a bit irritating -- surely there are better conundrums against real enemies to occupy his thoughts. Fair warning to the faint of heart, his sex scenes are very explicit, I personally would prefer much more left to the imagination and not on the printed page. After reading the full trilogy, I love his characterization and the overall plot line and eagerly await his promised Revelations Trilogy to see where he takes his characters next. Note to the author, thanks for the Epilogue, the story would have left us heartbroken in empathy with Sofia and young Marcus without the very last scene.

Pax Imperia The Redemption Trilogy Book 3 eBook Mike Smith Reviews

having read the first two books, I embarked on Pax Imperia expecting to find a conclusion written to the format of the previous two. I was pleasantly surprised, by the quality of the English used to write the book which was higher and more elaborate than it's predecessors and by the depth of feeling expressed which was truly perfect. I was less happy about the "Deus Ex Machina " ending in which we offer an explanation for a series of events through the eyes of ghosts and at which, prior to the epilogue, we have no idea of the future path of the confederation, Insight is given in the epilogue but that still does not answer these questions. The story progresses well until the last 30 pages of the book in which everything comes to a total and abrupt end. I have to say that this was not a satisying way to end such a strongly developed story. I think that a Quadrigy is called for
I thoroughly enjoyed books one and two in this series. The authors writing had firmed up a bit between the two books and I was hoping to see the same in the third book but some of the characters do things that you would not expected from the first two books. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone so no details on it.

The Good

The authors has some very good timing in how he puts together many of the scenes. He has an excellent sense of comedic timing. in books two and three, he put some great references to 20th century characters (John Rambo for one) that had me chuckling I enjoyed that.

The actions scenes are still good and vivid without getting into an agonizing level of detail that some other writers get into.

Some more plot twists and the true nature of the enemy is found out.

The not so good.

I hated the ending. It got metaphysical quite a bit in this book (though to be honest, it was a bit all through the series) especially towards the ending. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I just did not like it. The book flowed fairly well (more damsel in distress stuff) until the ending. If someone is dead, leave them that way.....

The sex stuff. It was more prevalent in this book and a bit more graphic. I'm not a prude by any means but it detracted from the story line and really did not have a place in any of the books. A love interest, sure, but to watch them have sex, naaah, not really necessary and a detraction.

I think book three could be rewritten to make things a bit more consistent with previous actions by characters and how we came to know them.

Overall, I liked the series a lot. I recommend reading the whole thing. Read the afterward, it is short and pertinent to how the story even came about. I like seeing that type of insight into why and author does some of the things they do.

Enjoy.
First, the not so great I had to re read some of the text as is seemed to flow against itself in some places. It's probably because I'm an American and the book seems to be written in British lexicon.

That's it.

I read the series and could not put it down. I came across The Last Praetorian as the flight attendants were calling for wireless communications to cease. It was free, it was the third thing I saw, I had about one minute left to look and there was a spaceship on the cover. I figured, "What the hay."

I ended up purchasing the other two, something I haven't done in several years.

I'm looking forward to the Revelations series.

Mr. Smith- excellent ending, even if it wasn't what you expected to do (yes, I read your notes although you said no one would.) Thank you, sir.
I read the first two books in this series and enjoyed them - to a point. This one, I couldn't finish (more on that later). I agree with other reviewers on several overall negatives for this trilogy 1. BAD EDITING! (way too many grammar and spelling errors), 2. Cliched dialogue (not creative), 3. In need of a thesaurus (I lost count how many times "whilst" was used incorrectly). 4. Overuse of literary devices (jumping from past to present, characters popping in and out, etc).. 5. Engorged pages of bogus physics and sci-fi machinery and other gobblygook. 6. Long, over-the-top sex scenes. 7. The gratuitous supernatural overlay that lost all meaning.

However, despite the negatives, this author can spin a good yarn with engaging characters, lots of action, humor and roller-coaster-like emotional investment. Which is why I really enjoyed the first two books and would recommend them if it weren't for this last one. It started off ok, but 36% in I couldn't take it anymore and skipped to the end and the epilogue, thus saving myself hours of reading about characters I truly liked and was rooting for, only to be aggravated by their endlessly tortured, murderess, convoluted, embattled, and made-no-sense life choices. And all for an ending that was total crap.
